Psa 90:12  So teach us to number our days, so that we may bring a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12 literally says make us to know the number or time of our days that wisdom may enter our hearts.  Who is Wisdom?  The Messiah. (1 Corinthians 1:24, 30).

Psa 96:1  O sing to YHWH a new song; sing to YHWH, all the earth.
Psa 96:2  Sing to YHWH; bless His name, bear news of His salvation (Heb. yeshuah) day by day.
Psa 96:3  Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonders among all people.

The Septuagint translates Psalm 90:12 as follows
Psa 90:12  And who knows how to number his days because of the fear of Your wrath? So manifest Your right hand, and those that are instructed in wisdom in the heart.

Who is His Right Hand?  The Messiah  (Psalm 118:14-16; Isaiah 48:13; Acts 5:31).
Man's days are a shadow picture which points to Messiah (1 Chronicles 29:15; Job 8:8-9; Psalm 102:11; 144:4)

The life of Enoch lasted 365 years corresponding to the number of days in the Gregorian calendar.  Enoch's name in Hebrew is חנך which means to teach or train up.  As the Moses says, numbering these days brings wisdom or teaching to our hearts (Psalm 90:12).
Gen 5:21  And Enoch lived sixty five years and fathered Methuselah.
Gen 5:22  And Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he fathered Methuselah. And he fathered sons and daughters.

One word for ‘history’ in Hebrew is toledot (generations, genealogy, birth).  The English word 'history' comes from 'weid' which means to know or see, as in a vision.

The word vision means something seen in the supernatural.  The English etymology shows that history is linked to the supernatural or the guiding Hand of the Most High.

Another word linked to the concept of history is סדר 'seder' which is the origin of the English word 'story.'  In Latin 'historia' is the telling of a connect history or series of happenings.  This traces back to 'seder' in Hebrew.  The 'seder olam' (History/Order of the World) is the name of an ancient history book, further linking history to this word.

 The root word is דר 'dar' which means a circle.  Is it no surprise that history is cyclical?

דר 'dar' is also the root of the word דבר 'davar' which means the Word.  Interestingly, סדר is also related to the Hebrew word סד which means a field. Further linking these two words is סהד 'sahad' which means a testimony or record of events.  Messiah describes the field as the world and the seed (the English word seed comes from this Hebrew word סד) as the Word....

Mat 13:38  And the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; but the darnel are the sons of the evil one.
And so it is in history.  A cyclical history of events where the good seed and evil seed battle for dominion over the earth ultimately culminating in the Messiah returning and reigning over the earth.

Notice the amazing connections to the above etymology in Messiah's parable.
Mat 13:38  And the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; but the darnel are the sons of the evil one.   The field סד.  The seed דבר.
Mat 13:39  And the hostile one who sowed them is the Devil, and the harvest is the end of the age, and the angels are the reapers.
Mat 13:40  Then as the darnel is gathered and is consumed in the fire, so it will be in the completion of this age.
Mat 13:41  The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all the offenses, and those who practice lawlessness.
Mat 13:42  And they will throw them into the furnace of fire; there will be weeping and gnashing of the teeth.
Mat 13:43  Then the righteous will shine out like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. The one having ears to hear, let him hear.
Mat 13:44  Again, the kingdom of Heaven is compared to treasure being hidden in the field, which finding, a man hid; and for the joy of it, he goes and sells all things, as many as he has, and buys that field.   Treasure in a field is also related to סד as this word also means a hidden treasure.  PaRDeS
Mat 13:45  Again, the kingdom of Heaven is compared to a man, a merchant seeking excellent pearls;
As seen above, דר also means the whiteness of a pearl.  For more on the link between pearls and the word see Etymology.
Mat 13:46  who finding one very precious pearl, going away has sold all things, as many as he had, and bought it.
Mat 13:47  Again, the kingdom of Heaven is compared to a drag net thrown into the sea, and gathering together of every kind;
Mat 13:48  which, when it was filled, drawing it up on the shore, and sitting down, they gathered the good into containers, and they threw out the rotten.
Mat 13:49  So it will be in the completion of the age: the angels will go out and will separate the evil from the midst of the righteous,
Mat 13:50  and will throw them into the furnace of fire; there will be weeping and gnashing of the teeth.
Mat 13:51  Jesus said to them, Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes, Lord.
Mat 13:52  And He said to them, Because of this, every scribe schooled to the kingdom of Heaven is like a man, a master of a house, who puts forth out of his treasure new and old.
Notice that Messiah those who are schooled in the Kingdom of Heaven are likened unto scribes.  Scribes not only copied sacred texts, but also chronicled history.

Another word for history in Hebrew is ‘sippur’ which means a telling or a record.  The word for scribe in Hebrew comes from this word.
 The English word Gospel traces back to this word 'saphar.'  The Gospel is the Word which is why so much of the Bible is full of history.  For example the Book of Chronicles is called 'divrei ha'yamin' which literally means words of the days.

The Gospel is linked with the promise to Abraham and his Seed (Acts 13:32; Galatians 3:8).  This is speaking of Messiah in particular but also the multitudes of Abraham's descendants who were promised to be kings and nations and in him would all the families of the earth be blessed.  The blessing is to know Messiah...this is the gift of the Gospel (Acts 3:25-26).
Act 13:32  And we preach the gospel to you, the promise made to the fathers,
The Promise = the Word
Deu 6:3  Hear, then, O Israel, and take heed to do it, that it may be well with you, that you may increase greatly, as YHWH the God of your fathers has promised* you, in the land flowing with milk and honey.
Psa 105:42  For he remembered his holy promise*, and Abraham his servant.

*promise = dabar...His Word is His promise
1Jn 2:25  And this is the promise which He promised us: everlasting life.

Spider webs and time
Psa 90:9  For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

The word for 'tale' in the above verse is הגב 'hegeh' which means to 'murmur while meditating.'  The Septuagint and Vulgate link this murmuring to a spider's web which is interesting as the web of a spider is a 'cyclical' figure just as history is.

LXX
Psa 90:9  For all our days are gone, and we have passed away in Your wrath; our years have spun out their tale as a spider.

Isa 59:5  They hatch adders' eggs, and weave the spider's web; he who eats their eggs dies; and that which is crushed hatches out a viper.

The word for 'weave' is ארג 'arag' which comes from the root רג which literally means the feet of man or travels of man.  A woven rug is something placed on the floor of the tent that man walks upon.  A thought is something 'weaved' in the mind.

The word for 'web' in Isaiah 59:5 is קור which comes from the root קר which has the meaning of a the gathering of men to a meeting.  This was done during the feasts which were 'holy convocations' מקרא from the same root word קר.

All of history is recorded in the Bible, the sepher.
Isa 46:10  declaring the end* from the beginning, and from the past those things which were not done, saying, My counsel shall rise; and, I will do all My desire;
*acharit can mean both the end, as well as that which follows

Not only the end, but everything that ‘follows’, or it can be said all of history is recorded in the Word.
The Jewish Mind pg 33-34 quoting the Genius of Vilna
“The rule is that all that was, is, and will be unto the end of time is included in the Torah, from the first word to the last word.  And not merely in a general sense, but as to the details of every species and each one individually, and details of details of everything that happened to him from the day of his birth until his end.”
The history of mankind points to Messiah.
Psa 77:5  I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
Psa 77:6  I will remember my song in the night; I will speak with my own heart, and my spirit carefully searches.
Psa 77:7  Will the Lord cast off forever; and will He not add, to be pleased any more?
Psa 77:8  Is His mercy gone forever? Has His Word failed for all generations?
Psa 77:9  Has God forgotten to be gracious; has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah.
Psa 77:10  And I said, This is my sickness, the years of the right hand of the Most High;

Psa 77:11  I will remember the works of YHWH; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
Psa 77:12  I will also meditate on all Your works and muse of Your doings.

In the above verses, the Psalmist recalls past history to remember the mighty works of YHWH.  It appeared to him that at that time YHWH’s Hand was not being revealed yet he continued to muse on His works.  In much of world history it is hard to see the Hand of YHWH in the affairs of men but yet He is in control of all things, even the plans and actions of mankind (Acts 4:28).
Pro 16:9  A man’s heart plans his way, but YHWH fixes his step.
Pro 19:21  Many purposes are in a man’s heart, but the counsel of YHWH shall stand.
Pro 20:24  The steps of a man are from YHWH, and what can man discern of his way?

Isa 46:9  Remember former things from forever, for I am God, and no one else is God, even none like Me,
Isa 46:10  declaring the end from the beginning, and from the past those things which were not done, saying, My counsel shall rise; and, I will do all My desire;

Remembering the days of old is linked with seeking Him
Psa 143:5  I remember the days of old. I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.
Psa 143:6  I spread out my hands to You; my soul is to You like a weary land. Selah.

The history of all mankind is linked together
Deu 32:7  Remember the ancient days, consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will declare to you, your elders, and they shall say to you;
Deu 32:8  when the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance; when He separated the sons of Adam, He set up the bounds of the peoples, according to the number of the sons of Israel.

History is cyclical, this is especially seen in the period of time of the year.  In Hebrew, the word year is shanah which means to repeat.
The year is determined by the sun moving through it’s courses.
The year begins in the month of Nisan/Aviv which occurs in the Spring at the tekufah or the turn of the year when the sun has completed its orbit.   Throughout the year the sun moves through all 12 constellations until it reaches the spring tequfah where it repeats the cycle.
tekufah 2
This path of the sun is a picture of Messiah
tekufah 2 Psa 19:1  To the chief musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens are recounting the glory of God, and the expanse proclaiming His handiwork.
Psa 19:2  Day by day they pour forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
Psa 19:3  There is no speech, nor are there words where their voice is not heard.
Psa 19:4  Their measuring line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world; in them He has set up a dwelling-place for the sun,
Psa 19:5  and he comes forth like a bridegroom
(Matthew 9:15) from his canopy. He rejoices like a hero to run a race;
Psa 19:6  his going forth from the end of the heavens, and his orbit
(tequfah) to their ends; and nothing is hidden from his heat.

Interestingly, the name of Messiah is linked with the cycle of the year as well.
יהושע Yehoshua = 391, subtracting 26 (יהוה) from His name gives the number 365, the number of days in the solar year.
ישוע Yeshua = 386, subtracting 26 (יהוה) from His name gives the number 360, the number days in the lunar year.
Why subtract 26?  As seen above in Psalm 77, it may appear that YHWH is not actively involved in the affairs of man, yet His ‘unseen Hand’ (Exodus 17:16) is in reality controlling everything.
To further illustrate this link between Messiah and time, the name Yahshua comes from the same root word ‘sha’ which mean an hour (sha’ah).
Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet pg 139 ‘lamed’
“In the days of the Scriptures, God taught His ways to Israel through His prophets.  Then, man could understand history and perceive it as the language of God’s will.  Without prophecy, it remains for man to search for God’s hand in His conduct of events, for it is an article of faith that Divine Providence is always at work.  In this sense, God is a Teacher, using events to show what is called for from man.”

YHWH is in control of history.

Psa 75:7  but God is the judge; He puts down this one and lifts up this other.

Psalm 75 is speaking of Messiah which is clear when looking at verses 2-3.  Asaph wrote the Psalm but clearly he is not the one who set the pillars of the earth...this is Messiah (1 Samuel 2:8).
Psa 75:2  When I take the appointed time, I shall judge in uprightness.
Psa 75:3  The earth and all those living in it are melting away; I set firm its pillars. Selah.
The Set times are in the Hand of YHWH (Genesis 17:21; 21:2; Exodus 9:5; Job 14:13; Psalm 102:13; Galatians 4:4; Mark 1:14-15; Acts 1:7; Ephesians 1:10; Daniel 9:24-27; Acts 4:26-28).  He sets ups kings and dominions for His purposes (Exodus 9:16; Psalm 105:25; 106:44-46; Romans 9:17; Deuteronomy 2:30; Jeremiah 25:9; 27:6-7; 40:2-3; 43:10; Isaiah 44:28; 45:1; Ezra 7:27; 13:3-6; 10:5-6; Proverbs 21:1; Revelation 17:17)

Pro 16:9  A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

The Gospel is linked with the promise to Abraham and his Seed.  This is speaking of Messiah in particular but also the multitudes of Abraham's descendants who were promised to be kings and nations who would spread to the east and west, north & south (Genesis 28:14-15).

Just as in the history of Israel, there were good and faithful kings, so too there have been wicked and rebellious kings in other nations before and after Messiah whose lives are shadows of Messiah.  Prophets and reformers as well as vast multitudes of nameless faceless people whose lives have glorified and revealed shadows of Messiah to others, many of whose deeds were only known by the Father.

The purpose of this series of studies is to show shadows of Messiah seen throughout the history of mankind in both the 'secular' Gregorian calendar and the Biblical calendar.  Much of history is filled with evil and conspiracies of man.  This is seen in Scripture as well as in secular history.  This too points to Messiah as Psalm 2 declares that man has been in a conspiratorial rebellion against YHWH and His Messiah throughout time.  History is a chronicle of man walking in obedience with the Most High, rebelling and then being punished and cast away followed by repentance and restoration.  This process has repeated over and over again.  This entire process points to Messiah as He is the One by which man is restored to relationship with the Father.
